In a large bowl or bowl of a stand mixer combine the 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup shortening, egg, salt, and 2 cups flour.
Spray the insert of a 6-quart or larger slow cooker with cooking spray
Divide the dough into 12 pieces and shape into balls
Place in slow cooker, cover, and cook on HIGH for 90 minutes or until the bottoms are golden and the rolls are cooked through
Brush with melted butter
