Ham and Macaroni Casserole

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 5 cups milk
  • 2-3 cups diced ham
  • 8 ounces cheddar or Colby cheese shredded
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper


  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions, drain and set aside

  2. preheat oven to 350 degrees

  3. Spray or butter a 3-quart baking dish and set aside

  4. Melt the butter in a deep skillet or pot

  5. Add the onion and cook until softened and translucent

  6. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant

  7. Sprinkle the onion and butter with flour, whisk well, and cook for 2-3 minutes

  8. Slowly whisk in the milk and cook for 3-5 minutes or until thickened and bubbly

  9. Season with salt and pepper and the parsley

  10. Stir in the ham and noodles

  11. Pour into the prepared casserole dish and top with cheese

  12. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until bubbly and the cheese is golden
