Slow Cooker Sausage Dogs

  • 1 1/2 pounds bun length smoked sausage links
  • 8 ounces of a cola soda
  • 4 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons butter or oil
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1 or 2 bell peppers sliced
  • Hot dog buns


  1. Place the sausages in the insert of a 4 quart slow cooker
  2. Stir together the soda and sugar
  3. Pour over sausage
  4. Cover and cook for 2 to 4 hours
  5. Remove sausages from the slow cooker
  6. Measure out 1/2 a cup of the cooking juices and mix with the barbecue sauce
  7. Melt the butter or heat oil in a skillet
  8. Add the onions and peppers and sauté until tender
  9. Place the sausages in the buns and drizzle with the sauce and top with the onion and peppers
