If your family is anything like mine there are nights when you just can’t seem to get supper on the table fast enough. This is where Simple Sauerkraut and Weenies is perfect. One skillet, a handful of ingredients and about 20 minutes are all you need.

Do I Have to Use A Particular Sauerkraut?

Not at all. Use your favorite whether it’s from a can, bag or jar. You’ll just need about two cups. I used canned sauerkraut this time but have used one in a jar many times in the past.

What hot dogs should I use to make Sauerkraut and Weenies?

This is another question of personal preference. There are several brands we like so I get what’s least expensive that trip but feel free to use a fancier brand. You could even use sliced smoked sausage or kielbasa is you desired.

Sauerkraut and weenies with mashed potatoes

Simple Sauerkraut and Weenies

Ingredients

  • 4-6 hot dogs
  • 14.5 ounces sauerkraut approximately 2 cups
  • To taste salt
  • To taste black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over moderate heat

  2. Slice the hot dogs

  3. Place in skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes per side or until lightly browned

  4. Add the sauerkraut, stir, and turn heat to low

  5. Cook for 10-15 minutes or until the sauerkraut is heated through and lightly browned
