Simple and Delicious Homemade French Toast is made with a slightly unusual ingredient.
I have a recipe for easy freezer-friendly oven baked French toast on the blog but who is going to turn the oven on when it’s 90 degrees? Not me, that’s for certain.
This stove top recipe came about one morning a few weeks ago. We had somewhere to be early and we knew that there wouldn’t be an opportunity to eat again until late in the afternoon.
There was a loaf of Texas toast starting to go a bit stale and I had some flavored coffee creamer that I needed to use up. Yes, you read that right, coffee creamer. If you are a strictly from scratch cook, I apologize. I prepare 95% of our food from scratch but sometimes a girl’s gotta get the meal on the table faster.
I mixed some eggs, salt, a pinch of cinnamon, and the last of the coffee creamer, dunked the bread in, slapped it on my griddle and about 10 minutes later had the best French toast I had ever tasted.
The kind I used was a sweet cream variety, which may be called sweet creme, sweet Italian creme, or even just cream depending on the brand. I think that French Vanilla, Irish Cream, or Caramel would be delicious as well.
