May 2018 Monthly Menu Plan

Looking for dinner ideas that will make your family and your wallet happy? My May 2018 Monthly Menu Plan will do just that.

May 2018 Monthly Menu Plan featuring Hearty Two Bean Chili and Easy Ground Beef Tacos.

In my April 2018 Menu Plan, I mentioned that I am switching from weekly meal planning to monthly meal planning.

We’ve lived in our new town long enough that I know the sales cycles at the grocery stores so I have a good idea of what’s on sale each week.

Have we stuck to the menu plan exactly? No, I have made some swaps based how I was feeling or last minute things that have popped up.

That’s just life and it means that I may make the meal on another night.

In order to simplify the meal planning process, I’ve given each night a theme.

  • Meatless Monday. This one is pretty obvious.
  • Taco Tuesday This is another one that needs no real explanation
  • Waffle Wednesday. We’re having breakfast for dinner on Wednesday
  • Take Out Fake Out Thursday.  On Thursday I’m making restaurant copycats or other restaurant inspired foods. Lasagna is a good example.
  • Al Fresco Friday. This is a seasonal theme. On Friday we like to enjoy dinner in the great outdoors so I’ll be making things that are picnic friendly. The first Friday of the month we splurge on actual takeout.
  • Sizzling or Sandwich/Salad Saturday Saturday means getting out the grill or making a tasty sandwich or main dish salad
  • Simple Sunday. I  keep things easy on Sunday with something that I can easily add to the slow cooker or Instant Pot. We like to eat our big meal not long after church and have sandwiches or leftovers in the evening.

The fun and I actually mean it, part is I’m trying to keep each week at no more than 50 dollars. I am purposely cutting this month’s grocery budget in about half. I’m planning on switching to a big once a month shop for most of our stuff starting in June.

All three of the auntlings will be here most of the summer and the fewer trips I make with four, nine, and eleven years old children the better.

Be sure to keep an eye out starting Mother’s Day to see if I can do it.

How do you menu plan? Weekly, monthly or some other way?
