Groceries for Three For Less Than 70 Dollars

Want to see how I feed my family without breaking the bank? Here’s how I got a week’s worth of Groceries for Three For Less Than 70 Dollars.

Groceries for Three For Less Than 70 Dollars

In last week’s post, I mentioned one of the reasons I started this was I needed to get the grocery budget back in line. This week was my best yet. I managed to squeak in just below 70 dollars.

That was with having all three kids at the store with me. Let me just say hats off to all you moms. dads, grandparent, etc. who do this all the time. Especially if you have all littles.

Back to the groceries. We only stopped at two stores this week. Partially because of the paragraph above and because of a screaming hot unadvertised deal at Winn Dixie.

Our weekly grocery and household budget is usually $100. Some weeks it’s a bit lower and other weeks it can be a bit higher. It does include any cleaning products, personal products, paper products, and usually pet food as well.

Groceries in Alabama are taxed at the same rate as non grocery items. The amount varies depending on where you live. My area is pretty much at a 10% tax rate.

I feed between two and five people on any given night depending on which configuration of niece and nephews are here. My usual grocery stops are Walmart, Aldi, Winn Dixie, two local Mom and Pop grocery chains, and Sam’s Club.

Winn Dixie

I mentioned last week that I love the Saturday and Sunday only specials that Winn Dixie runs. This time it was fresh boneless skinless chicken breast. We were down to the last 3 or 4 pieces of chicken from the 10-pound bag we got in March. Or was it in February? Anyway, we were running pretty low so I was happy to see that it was on sale.

  • 3 MTN Dew 2-Liters.  $3.98 These were on sale buy two get one free and it worked out to $1.33 each
  • 2 Store Brand 2-Liters  $1.58 The kids wanted their own soda and these were $.79 each
  • 5.70 Pounds Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast $9.63
  • 5 pounds Frozen Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs $6.00. This is a really good deal because I rarely see boneless thighs less than $1.69 a pound. It was two 2.5 pound bags name brand chicken for $3 each.
  • 4.54 Pounds Ground Beef $9.04. My target regular grocery store price for ground beef is $1.99 a pound. I try not to spend more than that unless I’m getting it at Sam’s Club or Costco.
  • 32-ounce Container French Onion Dip $3.99. We had burgers for supper one night and chips and dip were one of the sides.
  • 3 (1.5 Quart) Containers of Ice Cream $10 Ice cream was planned but I thought we’d pick up a party pail of chocolate or Neopolitan and that would be that. I was mistaken.

  • Burrito Sized Flour Tortillas $1.29
  • 1 Gallon 2% Milk $1.08
  • 2 packs Hamburger Buns $1.70
  • 1 Loaf White Sandwich Bread $0.85
  • 2 Heads Iceberg Lettuce $1.70
  • Ketchup $1.49
  • 2 Bags Wavy Potato Chips $2.18
  • 1.5 Pound Vine Tomatoes $1.49
  • Deli Rolls $1.89
  • 2 Cans of Cut Green Beans $0.98
  • Refried Beans $0.79
  • Baked Beans $1.39
  • 3 pounds Red Onions $1.49
  • Cheese Crackers $1.49
  • Deli Sliced Cheddar Cheese $1.79
ALDI TOTAL: $23.72

Grand Total of All Groceries: $69.72

It was just barely less than 70 dollars. This puts under budget for April though. I spent a grand total of $386.46.
