Biscuits and gravy are my favorite comfort food. I think if I had to eat just one food for breakfast for the rest of my life this would be it.
Southern Sausage Gravy
- 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage
- 2 Tablespoons all purpose flour
- 2 to 2 1/2 cups milk
- To taste salt
- To taste pepper
Slice sausage into patties of desired thickness. Fry in a skillet until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Remove from skillet and keep warm.
Measure out 2 Tablespoons of fat from sausage and discard the rest. If using a lean sausage add oil or butter to reach 2 Tablespoons of fat. Sprinkle with the flour and cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes.
Whisk in the milk and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5 minutes or until gravy has thickened.
Crumble 4 sausage patties into the gravy and season to taste with salt and pepper.
Serve over hot buttermilk biscuits and enjoy!
