Herbs and spices are one of my favorite ways to add deliciousness to my dinner plate with little cost or effort. I have three plastic shoeboxes in my cupboard holding a wide variety of herbs, spices, and seasoning mixes. There are far too many herbs and spices to list in one post so I am going to list some of my favorites and what I use them for.

  • Onion powder- perfect for adding a hint of onion flavor in places where chunks of onion might not work as well, like meatballs.
  • Turmeric-  Love adding this to fried potatoes and rice.
  • Paprika- adds a wonderful color and smoky flavor to chili, dry rubs, taco and Mexican seasonings and Chicken Paprikash.
  • Cajun/Creole Seasoning- Great on burgers, chicken, and French fries.
  • Rosemary- Delicious in French and Italian dishes, potatoes and chicken.
  • Sage- can’t make chicken and dressing without it.
  • Kosher or sea salt.
  • Black pepper
  • Chili powder- Not only for chili but dry rubs or mixed with paprika, salt, and onion and garlic powders for a quick taco seasoning.

What are your can’t live cook without herbs and spices?
