Frugal Flavors : Marinades, Sauces and Gravies

This last week is an eclectic week. From Southern sausage gravy to an Italian red sauce or a flavorful jerk marinade you can travel the world through your taste buds. This entire series works together because you need to know what herbs and spices, condiments,cooking techniques, and marinade, sauce or gravy go well with  the dish you want to make.

  • Marinades: can be as simple as a bottle of Italian dressing over some chicken breasts.
  • Gravies: can be down home comfort food like country gravy and fried chicken or elegant like a brown gravy made with homemade beef stock served with a roast and all the trimmings.
  • Sauces: Alfredo, hollandaise, tartar, and homemade "cream of" soups are just a few examples of different sauces.
