Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried green tomatoes are one of those  side dishes I didn’t fully appreciate until I was grown. These are one of my favorite treats, indulged in at my favorite meat and three restaurant as a side with beef tips in gravy over rice.

Fried Green Tomatoes are a classic Southern side dish or appetizer.

I haven’t made them at home in years. When I noticed the grocery store had a display of the green beauties I knew it was time to whip up a batch.

These would also be delicious served with chicken and dumplings, chicken and dressing, or smothered pork chops with a big glass of sweet tea of course.

I remember when my mama made fried green tomatoes when I was growing up. She’d fry two or three and eat one. Needless to say she didn’t eat whatever supper was that night because she was full from eating the tomatoes

Since we moved our local Mom and Pop grocery store carries green tomatoes all year long so I don’t have to wait until summertime.

  1. Oh..these look so good!! I like the flour coated tomatoes so much better than cornmeal coated. Will be making them this week. Thanks!!!!!

    • I’m the same way. That’s one of the reasons I never buy the ones in the frozen food section because they are always coated in cornmeal.

Thanks for commenting. I always enjoy hearing from you.
