Ditch the bottled salad dressing with this creamy buttermilk dressing.
This recipe is adapted from a Pioneer Woman recipe. I’ve changed the amounts of ingredients and added a couple of new ones based on playing with the recipe over the past few months.
I know some bloggers don’t watch cooking shows, read cookbooks, or other food blogs but I often find inspiration in the most unusual ways.
You would be surprised how often seeing a chocolate cake recipe will actually inspire a main dish. My brain works in strange ways sometimes. I might see a dessert recipe, remember when I had something similar at a restaurant years ago and think of the chicken dish I ate on another visit to the same restaurant.
This dressing is made with pretty basic ingredients. Just whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, buttermilk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Let it hang out in the chill chest for at least a couple of hours and toss with your favorite salad greens.
I make this dressing more than I do any other. Mostly because I’m low on homemade Ranch mix and haven’t bought the ingredients to replenish my supply. It’s also surprisingly good as a French fry dip or even with fried pickles.
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 3/4 mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients in a jar or bowl with a lid.
Whisk well to blend
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving
