About

Hey y’all! I am so glad you stopped by Cookin’ Mimi.

I started the blog back in August of 2008 after I was inspired by Stephanie O’Dea from A Year of Slow Cooking. If you look through the archives you will notice there aren’t any posts from 2008 and that is because I managed to break my blog and was unable to transfer posts over. Believe me you aren’t missing much because the first year of blogging I honestly had no clue what I was doing.

I don’t ever remember not cooking. Some of my happiest times were making biscuits with my granddaddy, brownies at Christmas with my mom, and I even had a “recipe” published when I was four years old. But my real love for cooking started when I was a teenager. In fact I received a pasta maker for my thirteenth or fourteenth birthday.

The food you will find here on Cookin’ Mimi is exactly what I cook every day. It’s a mix of traditional Southern food, good old American home cooking, and my favorite ethnic inspired dishes. Being a native Southern Californian I grew up eating Mexican food as often as I did the beans, cornbread, and fried cabbage my mama grew up eating.
