Fried Pickles for a Man Food #SundaySupper

Today we’re celebrating the men in our lives with a Man Food #SundaySupper. Fried pickles would be great served while watching sports. I ate this batch while watching game 2 of the hockey finals.

Fried pickles seem to be a Southern thing. Dill pickle chips are breaded in seasoned flour and deep fried until golden and crispy and served along side Ranch dressing for dipping. I know some of you are thinking “That’s just crazy. There is no way that would be good.” I was that way until I tried them. I don’t even really like pickles but I love fried pickles.

This is normally something I order when I go eat at a local barbecue joint but I think these taste even better.

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce) jar dill hamburger chips, drained
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon or more to taste black pepper
  • Ranch dressing- optional
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Pour half an inch of oil in to a heavy bottomed pot or deep skillet and heat to 350 degrees over medium heat.. I use cast iron to fry in.
  2. Mix together the flour, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, and black pepper in a shallow dish
  3. Pour the buttermilk in a shallow dish
  4. Lightly coat the pickles in the flour, dip in the buttermilk, and coat again in flour.
  5. Fry in small batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown
  6. Drain on paper toweling
  7. Serve hot with ranch dressing if desired
